Fall Car Care Tips

Fall Car Care Tips in Kennesaw, GA

Summer is winding down, and the days are getting shorter while cooler weather is setting in. Some people love the fall season, while some are sad to see summer leave. Either way, it's important to take the proper steps to care for your car during fall, in order to prepare for the winter season. For your convenience, we've put together some tips to help you with your car care.

Top 4 Fall Tips

1. Tire Tread and Pressure

As the temperature drops, tires can lose pressure (one pound of pressure for every 10-degree Fahrenheit drop). If you have summer tires on your vehicle currently, a good idea would be to switch to all-season tires. Be sure to check your owner's manual for the outlined tire pressure. For tread, you can use the penny method: Place a penny into the tread grooves. If Lincoln's head is showing, your treads are less than the recommended 2/32” of tread depth (according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

2. Battery

Fall is a great time to check your car's battery, since cold weather can wear down a car battery. Check the battery connections and ensure they're tight, clean and free of corrosion. A good idea is to also have your battery tested. If it's more than three years old, it might be time to replace it so you don't have any surprise battery failures.

3. Heating and Cooling

It's important that your car's heating and cooling are performing well. This is not just for driver and passenger comfort, but for safety reasons too, such as needing to defrost the windows in winter.

4. Lights

With the days getting shorter, you'll need to use your lights more often. Make sure all your lights are in working order, including your brake lights. If a bulb is out, be sure to replace it.
